A United Nations observance recognizing older people, care, dignity, work, and family life.
A day for naps, prayer, reading, recovery, study, and the human need to step out of noise for a little while.
The day honoring the elderly is observed with visits to the elders, the preparation of special meals, and the tradition of listening to the stories of the elders. The Malagasy culture is built on the respect for the elders (ray aman-dreny), and the elderly are the custodians of the fady (taboos), the kabary (oration), and the cultural memory. The day is also a reminder that Madagascar has one of the lowest life expectancies in the world (about 66 years), and the elderly who survive are the ones who have the wisdom and the experience to guide the community.
You encounter Sweden's characteristic moose, brown bears, and European lynx throughout its forests and wilderness areas. You see that Swedish households most commonly keep dogs, cats, and rabbits as beloved household pets. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
