Lietuvos Nepriklausomybės Atkūrimo Diena

The anniversary of the March 11, 1990 declaration of independence from the Soviet Union. The declaration was the first in the Baltic states, and it was made by the Supreme Council of Lithuania, led by Vytautas Landsbergis. The Soviet Union responded with an economic blockade, and the independence was not recognized until September 1991. The day is observed with ceremonies, and the reminder that independence was declared, defended, and won.
