Nine months before Christmas, the Archangel Gabriel's announcement to Mary is observed with church services across the principality. The Kunigundenkapelle (St. Kunigunde's Chapel) in Schaan, a small medieval chapel with 14th-century frescoes, is a particular focus of the Annunciation observance. The chapel, dedicated to St. Kunigunde (the patron saint of wine growers), connects the religious tradition to Liechtenstein's viticulture : the vineyards on the slopes above Schaan are beginning to stir with spring.
