Europe Day Observance
Liechtenstein is not a member of the European Union, but it is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA) and the Schengen Area. Europe Day is observed with events organized by the EEA liaison office in Vaduz, and the day is a reminder of Liechtenstein's unique position: outside the EU, but deeply integrated into the European economy through bilateral treaties. The principality uses the Swiss franc (not the euro), maintains its own customs union with Switzerland, and has its own foreign policy. The Europe Day events in Vaduz include exhibitions, discussions, and the inevitable question: what does it mean to be European in a country that is 25km long?
