Apr Fool's Day

The day of pranks is celebrated in Liberia with the same enthusiasm as everywhere else, and the pranks range from the harmless to the elaborate. The Liberian English phrase for the day is "April Fool day," and the tradition is to play tricks on friends and family before noon. The radio stations broadcast fake news, the newspapers publish fake stories, and the social media is a minefield of misinformation. The Liberian sense of humor is sharp, and the pranks are creative. The most common prank is telling someone their car has been towed or their phone is ringing when it is not.

Aprilscherz

The Swiss-German tradition of April Fool's is observed with pranks, fake news, and the tradition of saying "April, April!" when the prank is revealed. The Liechtenstein media : the Liechtensteiner Vaterland and the Liechtensteiner Volksblatt : often publish fake stories on April 1st. One famous prank was the announcement that Liechtenstein would be annexed by Switzerland; another claimed that the Prince had sold the country on eBay. The humor is dry, Alpine, and self-aware: the citizens of a country so small that it can be driven across in 25 minutes find the idea of its annexation genuinely funny.
