Mariä Geburt

The feast of the Nativity of Mary is observed with church services, and the day is a public holiday in Liechtenstein. The Catholic tradition is strong (80% of the population is Catholic), and the Marian feasts are observed with devotion. The Pfarrkirche St. Florin in Vaduz, the St. Peter and Paul church in Schaan, and the Kunigundenkapelle in Schaan all hold special services. The Kunigundenkapelle is particularly associated with this feast : St. Kunigunde, the patron saint of wine growers, is venerated as the protector of the harvest, and the wine growers of Schaan bring the first grapes of the season to the chapel for blessing.
