Youm al-Jala' al-Biritani

The anniversary of the final withdrawal of British forces from Libya in 1970. The day is observed with ceremonies, and the message is that Libya is a sovereign nation that will not host foreign military bases. The day is a reminder that Libya's oil wealth gave it the leverage to demand the removal of foreign forces, and that the bases were closed without firing a shot.
