Youm al-Turath

A day celebrating the cultural heritage of Libya, from the prehistoric rock art of the Acacus Mountains to the Ottoman mosques of Tripoli. Libya has five UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Leptis Magna, Sabratha, Cyrene (Shahhat), Ghadames, and the Acacus Mountains. The day includes tours of the heritage sites, exhibitions of traditional crafts, and the performance of traditional music and dance. The heritage is under threat from looting, neglect, and the ongoing conflict, and the day is also a call to action: protect the past, because it is the foundation of the future.
