Youm al-Wahda al-Afriqiya

Libya is an African nation, and the day celebrates Libya's African identity and its connections to the continent. Under Gaddafi, Libya was a major funder of the African Union (which Gaddafi championed as a replacement for the Organization of African Unity), and the day is observed with cultural events featuring African music, dance, and food. The Tuareg and the Tubu of southern Libya are the bridge between North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, and their cultures are a blend of Berber, Arab, and African traditions.
