Mokete oa Poni

The Basotho pony is a breed of horse that is adapted to the mountainous terrain of Lesotho. The pony is sure-footed, hardy, and calm, and it can navigate steep trails and rocky passes that would defeat any other breed. The Basotho have been riding ponies for centuries, and the pony is the primary means of transport in the mountains where there are no roads. On Pony Day, the herders bring their finest ponies to the lowlands for races, demonstrations, and trading. The pony is not just a mode of transport. It is a member of the family, and a Basotho without a pony is like a Basotho without a blanket.

Animals of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha Day

You encounter Saint Helena giant tortoises, wirebirds, and endemic seabirds on these remote Atlantic islands. You notice that islanders commonly keep dogs, cats, and donkeys as their primary pets and working animals. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
