Letsatsi la Batlhale

A day to remember the heroes of Lesotho's struggle for independence and democracy. The heroes include Moshoeshoe I (the founder), Moshoeshoe II (the king who abdicated and was reinstated), and the soldiers and civilians who died in the 1998 political crisis. The day is observed with ceremonies at the national monuments, and the reminder that Lesotho's history is one of resistance, resilience, and the determination to remain independent. Lesotho is one of only three countries in the world entirely surrounded by another country (the others are San Marino and Vatican City), and the Basotho have always refused to be absorbed by South Africa.
