World Calendar Day

Dia de la Mujer

National holiday since 2024. The marches through Santiago are among the largest in Latin America, filling the Alameda from La Moneda to Baquedano with green scarves and fierce conviction. Chilean feminism has its own voice and it does not ask permission.

Regional/Cultural Day

Starptautiskā Sieviešu Diena

Inherited from the Soviet era, but embraced by Latvian women as both celebration and demand. The flowers are given (tulips and daffodils, because they are the first flowers of spring), and the speeches call for equal pay, against domestic violence, and for women's representation in government. Latvia has one of the highest gender pay gaps in the EU (16.2%), and the day is both flowers and frustration.
