Al-Qurain Martyrs Day
The anniversary of the Battle of Al-Qurain (also known as the Battle of the Qurain House), one of the most famous engagements of the Kuwaiti resistance during the Iraqi occupation. On February 24, 1991, as the coalition forces were advancing on Kuwait City, a group of Kuwaiti resistance fighters was surrounded by Iraqi forces in a house in the Qurain neighborhood. The fighters held out for hours, and several were killed. The house is now a museum (the Qurain House Museum), and the bullet holes are still visible in the walls. The day is observed with a ceremony at the museum, where the families of the martyrs lay flowers and the names of the dead are read aloud.
