An annual festival in Kuwait Bay celebrating the dhow heritage of Kuwait. The dhow (dawan in Kuwaiti Arabic) is the wooden sailing vessel that was the backbone of Kuwait's economy before oil. The Kuwaiti dhows were built by master shipwrights (qallalif) using Indian teak and coconut fiber (no nails were used in the construction), and they sailed to India, East Africa, and Iraq carrying pearls, dates, and spices. The festival includes dhow races in Kuwait Bay, demonstrations of traditional shipbuilding, pearl diving re-enactments, and the serving of traditional maritime food: mutabbaq samak (fish stuffed with rice and spices), machboos rubyan (spiced rice with shrimp), and maqwba (fish baked with okra and tomato).

A day for borrowing, lifting, watching, warning, checking in, and making the block feel less anonymous.
You encounter Mediterranean seabirds like the yellow-legged gull and occasional monk seals in Monaco's waters. You find that small dog breeds, cats, and ornamental fish are the typical pets kept by Monégasque residents. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
You encounter Persian carpets and rugs handwoven in towns like Tabriz and Isfahan, where families have perfected intricate knotting techniques across generations. You appreciate that these carpets are considered art pieces and cultural ambassadors, with each pattern telling stories rooted in Persian history.
