World Helpful Sign Day

A day for maps, arrows, labels, warnings, directions, and the quiet civic kindness of making places easier to understand.

Nagasaki Peace Memorial — World Calendar Day
Regional/Cultural Day

Nagasaki Peace Memorial

The anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. The ceremony is held at the Nagasaki Peace Park, and the Peace Statue points one hand at the sky (where the bomb came from) and the other hand extends horizontally (peace). The message is the same as Hiroshima: never again. The number of surviving hibakusha (bomb survivors) decreases every year, and their testimony is recorded and preserved, because the memory must outlive the witnesses.

Animals of Norfolk Island Day — World Calendar Day
Regional/Cultural Day

Animals of Norfolk Island Day

You spot the endemic Norfolk Island parakeet and the rare Norfolk Island robin, found nowhere else on Earth. You see that Norfolk Island residents keep domestic cats, dogs, and chickens as their most common pets. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
