The Puck Fair is Ireland's oldest festival, dating back to at least 1613. A wild goat is captured from the mountains, brought to the town, crowned "King Puck," and placed on a platform above the town for three days. The festival includes horse trading, music, dancing, and the coronation of the goat. The goat is released unharmed at the end. The origin story says that a goat alerted the villagers to the approach of Cromwell's soldiers, and the villagers crowned the goat in gratitude. Whether the story is true is irrelevant. The goat is still crowned.
