Newroz on March 21st is celebrated across the Kurdish regions with bonfires, dancing, and the story of Kawa the blacksmith, who defeated the tyrant Zahhak. In Iraq, the celebration is political: the Kurdish people survived Anfal, survived chemical weapons, survived the destruction of 4,000 villages, and they are still here. The bonfire is not just a fire. It is a statement.
