Ruz-e Rahbari

The anniversary of Ayatollah Khomeini's death in 1989. The ceremony at his mausoleum in Tehran is massive, with mourners chanting and weeping. The mausoleum is a shrine, and the mourning is performative, devotional, and sincere. Whether the sincerity is for the man or for the idea he represents is a question that every Iranian answers differently.
