Indonesia's health challenges are immense: 17,000 islands, limited infrastructure, and a population of 280 million. On Health Day, free clinics are set up in remote areas, and the statistics are published: maternal mortality rates, child vaccination rates, and the number of doctors per 100,000 people. The numbers are improving. The gap between Java and the outer islands is not.
