Hari Sumpah Pemuda

On October 28, 1928, Indonesian youth from every ethnic group pledged three things: one motherland, one nation, one language. The pledge was the first time the diverse peoples of the archipelago declared themselves one nation. The language they pledged was Bahasa Indonesia, which was not yet the national language but was chosen because it was nobody's ethnic language and therefore belonged to everybody.
