The 15th day of the Chinese New Year, celebrated with lanterns, dragon dances, and the eating of lontong cap go meh (rice cake in coconut soup). The dish is uniquely Indonesian-Chinese, a fusion that exists nowhere else, and every family has a recipe that is "the right one." Indonesia's Chinese community celebrates with lion dances, red envelopes, and the loudest firecrackers outside of a war zone. Glodok, Jakarta's Chinatown, is packed for days. The barongsai (lion dance) troupes practice for months, and the drums can be heard from three blocks away.
