The birthday of Rabindranath Tagore, the first non-European Nobel laureate in Literature. In Bengal, his songs (Rabindra Sangeet) are sung in every home, every school, and every concert hall. The songs are not performed. They are lived. Every Bengali knows at least a dozen by heart, and the ones they do not know, they hum.
