On April 13, 1699, Guru Gobind Singh founded the Khalsa, the order of initiated Sikhs. The Khalsa gave Sikhs their identity: uncut hair, a steel bracelet, a comb, special underwear, and a sword. Vaisakhi is celebrated with Nagar Kirtan processions through the streets, and the Punjab countryside glows with the gold of the wheat harvest.
