Ambubachi Mela

The Kamakhya Temple in Assam is built on the site where Sati's yoni (vulva) fell to earth. Every year in June, the goddess is believed to menstruate, and the temple is closed for three days. On the fourth day, it reopens, and millions of devotees receive a piece of red cloth that has been soaked in the goddess's menstrual fluid. The festival is the most powerful celebration of menstruation in any religion, anywhere in the world.
