Gantantra Diwas

On January 26, 1950, India's constitution came into effect. The parade in New Delhi is the centerpiece: military bands, camel cavalry, floats from every state, and a flyover by fighter jets that trail the national colors. Schoolchildren practice marching for weeks. The parade is three hours long, televised nationally, and watched by every Indian who is not at work.
