The town of Copan Ruinas celebrates its patron saint with a fair that overlaps with the peak tourist season for the Maya ruins. The irony of celebrating a Catholic saint next to a Maya acropolis is not lost on anyone. The fair has mechanical rides, food stalls, and a beauty pageant.
