Nine nights of processions reenacting Mary and Joseph seeking shelter. Each night, a different family hosts. The procession carries candles and sings the villancicos. The door is opened and the guests pour in. The ponche is served: hot fruit punch with raisins, prunes, apples, and a splash of aguardiente for the adults. The tamal is unwrapped. The prayer is said. Tomorrow night, another house, another door, another yes.
You observe colorful reef fish, sea turtles, and tropical seabirds like frigatebirds and herons in the waters and skies around Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. You find that dogs and cats dominate as pets, with some residents keeping parrots and other tropical birds. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
