Dia de la Candelaria

The Virgin of Candelaria is venerated across northern Chile, especially in the mining towns where faith is the only thing stronger than the desert. Processions carry her through streets lined with copihues and copper dust. The miners pray to her before every shift and she has never let them down.

Chandeleur

Every French household makes crepes. You must flip the first crepe with your left hand while holding a gold coin in your right, and if it lands back in the pan without tearing, the year will be prosperous. This is not superstition. This is tradition. The crepes are always sweet, always thin, and always eaten with more enthusiasm than the Chandeleur story deserves.
