Proposed. When the ice on the lake is thick enough to drive on, the ice road opens. In Finland, ice roads are real roads, marked, maintained, and used. The speed limit is low. The ice is checked daily. The Finns drive across the lake to reach the other side because the lake is a shortcut and the ice is a road and this is normal.
The Runebergintorttu, a small pastry flavored with almonds and jam, appears in every bakery. Every Finn knows it is named after the national poet J.L. Runeberg. Every Finn knows his wife Fredrika invented the pastry. Every Finn eats at least five before Feb 5 and then does not think about Runeberg again until next January.
