Proposed. The mesob, the woven basket table with a lid, is where Ethiopians eat together. One mesob, one platter of injera, one shared meal. You reach for the same piece of injera, the same wot, the same gomen. The mesob is not just furniture. It is a social contract. You do not eat alone at a mesob. You do not refuse food at a mesob. The mesob says: we are eating this together, and you are staying until I say you are full.

The chickpea flour stew, simmered with niter kibbeh and berbere, poured over injera, is the backbone of Ethiopian fasting food. Every household has its own shiro recipe. Every household insists its shiro is the best. The argument is endless. The shiro is always gone before the argument ends.
