Esimene Uku Paev

Proposed. Ukko, the old god of thunder, still lives in the Estonian vocabulary. The first thunderstorm of summer cracks the sky open and every Estonian flinches, then grins. The rain pours. The air clears. The mosquitoes multiply. The thunder is not a threat. The thunder is a reminder that this land has always had its own gods, and they are loud.

Maasikapaev

Proposed. The Estonian strawberry season is short and sacred. The berries are small, sweet, and red through the center. Every market stall overflows. Every grandmother makes moos, jam, enough to last the winter. The season begins in June and vanishes by August. The taste lingers longer.

Surbaspaev

Proposed. The Estonian mosquito, surkas, is not a mosquito. It is a precision instrument of suffering. The bogs breed them by the million. The forests harbor them by the billion. The lakes reflect them in every surface. The first mosquito of June is a herald. The last mosquito of September is a miracle. In between, every Estonian has a bites-to-brag-about count.

Animals of Togo Day

You observe Togo's distinctive animals including African elephants, spotted hyenas, various antelope species, and crocodiles in its savannas and waterways. You find that Togolese households commonly keep dogs, cats, and goats as pets and working animals. ACADA celebrates the world's pets, and helps assure better care.
