Fenkil Day

National holiday. Commemorates the 1990 military operation that liberated Massawa from Ethiopian forces. The celebration in Massawa itself is enormous: military parades, cultural performances, and the whole city descending on the seafront. The rest of the country watches on TV and feels the salt air in their lungs from a distance.
