It appears at every confirmation, every birthday, every graduation. The shrimp must be small Danish shrimp, not the large tropical ones. The egg must be sliced, not mashed. The mayonnaise must be homemade or at least pretending to be.
The first day of school in Denmark. Every child receives a filled cone, a skolekaepp, full of candy and school supplies. The cone is as tall as the child. The candy is eaten first. The school supplies are ignored. The tradition dates to the 1800s and the cones have only gotten larger.
