Jordbaer Dag

Proposed. Danish strawberries, jordbaer, are a seasonal religion. From June through August, every roadside stand sells them. Every family picks them. Every dessert features them. The jordbaersuppe, the strawberry soup, the jordbaerkage, the strawberry cake, the simple bowl of strawberries with cream. The season is short. The obsession is long.

Jordbaersaeson

Proposed. The Danish strawberry season is brief and intense. Roadside stands appear on every country road. Every family buys a box. Every family eats the entire box before getting home. The Danish strawberry is small, sweet, and red through to the center. It is not the same as the imported strawberry. It is not even close.

Valdemarsdag og Dannebrogsdag

The day the Dannebrog, the oldest continuously used national flag in the world, allegedly fell from the sky during the Battle of Lindholm in Estonia in 1219. Whether the sky actually opened or a dying soldier simply carried a red flag into battle, every Dane believes. The Dannebrog is not just a flag. It is a feeling.
