St. Nicholas (Mikulas), the devil (cert), and the angel (andel) walk the streets. The angel gives candy to good children, the devil gives coal and potatoes to bad children, and every Czech adult remembers being terrified of the cert, which is a man in a red suit with chains, and which is the most effective behavior modification tool in Czech history.
