The king of Congolese rumba, the icon of sape, the voice that defined elegance. Papa Wemba sang in Lingala, dressed in Paris, and walked through Brazzaville like the streets belonged to him. He was a sapeur before sapeurs had a name and a musician before musicians had borders. When Papa Wemba sang, the whole of Africa listened.
