A day for songs heard from passing cars, markets, radios, festivals, windows, workplaces, and family gatherings.
The morning ritual of mukeke begins before sunrise when the fishermen push their boats onto Lake Tanganyika. By dawn they return with silver bellies flashing and the women are waiting at the shore to buy, clean, and grill. The fish is eaten with lemon and pili-pili and anyone who thinks they have had fresh fish before has not had mukeke straight from Tanganyika water to charcoal grill.
A day for trust, conversation, mirrors, clippers, scissors, and leaving a little sharper than you arrived.
