Ruvubu Day
The Ruvubu River winds through the heart of Burundi, connecting provinces, feeding fields, and marking boundaries. Children swim in it, women wash clothes in it, and fishermen pull fish from it at dawn. Every Burundian has a Ruvubu story and most of them involve nearly getting swept away by the current when they were ten years old and their mother never found out.
