The lake is Burundi's western border, its highway, its refrigerator, and its beach. Bujumbura residents escape to the lakeside on weekends and the beaches like Karera and Saga fill with families, music, and mukeke sizzling on grills. The water is warm, the horizon stretches to Congo, and the sunset turns the whole lake to fire.
