National holiday. February 5 marks the day Burundi affirms its commitment to being one people under one flag. The speeches are formal, the flags hang from every pole and every taxi, and the real unity shows in how every neighborhood shares food that evening regardless of who they are. The official ceremony ends at sunset but the eating goes on until the neighbors run out of plates.
