Bogadi Day

Bogadi is the bride price, traditionally paid in cattle, and the negotiations at the kgotla are long, respectful, and involve enough cows to prove the groom is serious. The uncles do the talking, the aunts do the observing, and the couple is not allowed in the room. Every Motswana knows a family still negotiating bogadi and every wedding story starts with how many cows changed hands.
