Regional/Cultural Day
Lungdar Nyi
Prayer flags are so ubiquitous in Bhutan that people stop noticing them, but the act of hoisting new flags is a ritual loaded with meaning. The colors must be in the correct order: blue, white, red, green, yellow, representing sky, air, fire, water, and earth. Hang them wrong and your neighbor will absolutely tell you. The wind carries the prayers printed on the flags across the mountains, and every Bhutanese believes this with complete sincerity.
