Chortens, the white stupas dotting every hillside and crossroad, are circumambulated daily by devout Bhutanese, always clockwise, always with a prayer in the heart. The Memorial Chorten in Thimphu is where the elderly gather every morning and evening, walking their circuits with prayer wheels spinning. If you have not seen your neighbor at the chorten, you call to check on them.
