Taktsang Pelri Nyi
Paro Taktsang, the monastery clinging to a cliff face 900 meters above the valley, is the image every outsider knows. But every Bhutanese person remembers the climb as a family ordeal: the grandmothers who walk faster than the teenagers, the pony ride up that terrifies you more than the cliff, and the cup of suja at the cafeteria halfway that tastes like salvation. You go once for the photo, you go twice for the blessing, you go always because your mother told you to.
