Bon Traditions Day

Before Buddhism arrived, Bon was the spiritual tradition of the Himalayas, and its traces remain deeply embedded in Bhutanese village life. The offering of sang (incense) to local deities, the hanging of five-colored flags, and the rituals performed at certain mountain passes are all Bon practices that Bhutanese Buddhists perform without even realizing they are Bon. Every village has a local deity, and every local deity has opinions about how the village should behave.
