Phallic Symbol Painting Day
A celebration of Bhutan's most eyebrow-raising tradition: the painted phalluses on house walls and the carved wooden phalluses hung from eaves, all traceable to Drukpa Kunley. Every Bhutanese child grows up seeing enormous phallic paintings on their neighbor's house and thinking nothing of it until a foreign visitor turns red. The tradition is blessing, not vulgar, and every Bhutanese will explain this with a straight face.
