Paro Tshechu
Dates vary by lunar calendar. The biggest and most famous tshechu in Bhutan, held at the Paro Dzong. Locals attend for spiritual merit and the thangka unfurling at 3 AM, but the real reason everyone goes is to see who is wearing the finest kira and to catch up with relatives they have not seen since last year. Every Bhutanese kid remembers being terrified of the cham masks as a child and loving the atsaras who handed out sweets.
