Somba Tata Gbe
The tata Somba houses of northern Benin look like small clay fortresses with thatched turrets on top, which is exactly what they are. Each compound has a ground floor for livestock, a middle floor for grain storage, and a top floor where the family sleeps. The Somba people built these for centuries and they still build them today because nothing else works as well in this landscape.
