The Marche Artisanal in Cotonou is where Benin's craftspeople sell brass figures, Vodun statues, applique banners from Abomey, and wooden masks carved by hand. Bargaining is expected and respected as an art form. Walk the whole market first because the best piece is never at the first stall, and the conversation with the artist is worth more than the discount.
