Conch Shell Horn Evening
That low, moaning call of the conch shell blown at sunset on the Family Islands, the sound that says supper is ready, the boat is in, or something worth celebrating just happened. Every Bahamian child learns to press their lips to the shell and blow until their cheeks ache, and the ones who master it can be heard clear across the harbour. It is the original Bahamian notification system, and it still works better than any phone.
